Choreography: Lali Ayguadé
In this world we are constantly living with good and bad, what is right and what is wrong, with beauty and ugliness…and one always exists because of the other, we can not imagine one of them existing by itself, and both of them are necessary for the other to exist.
This piece is about these two worlds coexisting together. Good and evil, ugliness and beauty part of the intricate embroidery of life itself.

Choreography: Jarkko Mandelin
Melancholy. Meaningful gazes. Slowly developing situations. Influenced by the work of the well-known Finnish film director Aki Kaurismäki, Mandelin choreographs sceneries where tender and caring relations between people seem timeless and substantial. As a counterpoint unrestrained bursts, which might on the first sight seem violent, reveal as a playful game filled with physical details between the dancers who share an ultimate atmosphere of trust and support. The space works a platform for dance and physical dialogue. There are no unisons – only soloists who share gestures and moments in contact with each other. These situations, physical dialogues, are being observed by others on and off the stage.

– interactive lecture –

When one part moves, the body as a whole responds. Functionally, the only tissue that can mediate such responsiveness is the connective tissue. If there is a disturbance in the flow of motion (blocked joint, injury, scar tissue, over-use…) the body’s response is to shift the structure away from the pain, some parts starts to hold more weight and becomes harder that leads to over-use and he pain you had originally is moving to an other part. In the workshop you learn the structure of the soft tissue (fascia), you learn connections of holding patterns you never thought of, you learn how to detangle the knots and you learn exercises to maintain a balanced structure.

Zsuzsa Rózsavölgyi, dancer/choreographer studied at Budapest Dance School, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD) and P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. She worked with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Rosas for 5 years. Currently she is working with Thierry De Mey, composer on his new creation. Since 2009 she creates her own work with physically demanding processes. For years she researched on how to maintain her and her dancers physical and emotional needs during creation time and prepare herself and her dancers to reach their peak performance.

In his book “The impossible nude”, François Jullien is looking for the essence of the nude through the comparison of the Western and Chinese philosophy. One of his conclusion is that the denuded, naked human body is always objective. It could become a subject only when it veils its nudity. Wearing clothes draws the spectator’s focus onto the person’s spirit and personality. On the contrary: nudity is what draws our attention to the essential.

According to historians, dance is the root and most ancient form of all kind of performing art. From this perspective we can call it also a proto – performance.
Regardless of culture, religion, language or any other identity–defining aspect, this is an art form which can be found universally all around the world.
Moreover, dance is beyond the human being – we know many species, who dance their very own dance. What is common in the dance of the humans and the animals is the authentic instinct, where instead of its aesthetic experience it holds a practical function: a sophisticated evolutionary tool for choosing a mate.

Through a female and a male dancer, Eroica Universalis is reaching to this movement experience growing out of our ancient, authentic instinct. Their dance is a rapture of the never-ending circulation that evolves from the tension between the two parts of a divided universe. This performance is a lyrical representation of the tragedy that is derived from the intention of creating a unison, which can never be processed. A contemporary adaptation of the eternal, “lonely together” ballade.
